If you are searching for a lawyer to handle your legal matter, there are many choices available to you, and you may be wondering how to choose the lawyer that is right for you.

Do you go with one of the big name firms or will you get better service from a small firm? At Dunlap Law, you get the benefit of both.

I have practiced law in Memphis since 1985, and for many years I worked with a large firm and was mentored by some of the best. I offer the breadth of experience and legal acumen you would expect from a lawyer in a big name firm, yet I am able to provide you with personalized attention at a cost that is very competitive, and typically less than a large firm would charge

You will not be handed over to an associate to handle your matter as some large firms do, and I do not have the overhead that a large firm has to pay. Having said this, there are some cases where you would benefit more from the resources or particular specialty practice area that a large firm can offer. If your case is one of those, I will not hesitate to tell you and help you to find the lawyer or law firm that is best for you.

What to expect when you call

When you first call, I will listen to you and obtain initial pertinent information about your legal matter and your objectives. I will determine if it is a matter I can help you with, I will discuss my fees, and I will make sure I do not have any conflicts that would prevent me from taking your case. Once this is done, I will send you an engagement letter to set forth the scope and expectations regarding my representation of you. Typically, I do not require a retainer, but there are instances where it is appropriate, and if yours is such a case I will let you know and discuss this with you.

What to expect from my services

I believe that building a relationship of trust is critical to handling your legal matter effectively. In an effort to achieve this, I will make every effort to get to know you personally, to understand your business and objectives, to timely respond to your communications and questions, to communicate honestly and clearly with you, and to be attentive to whatever needs to be done in your case. When I am working on your legal matter, I view myself as your business partner, and I seek to provide you with excellent service and good value. If there is a creative solution that might expedite a resolution or achieve your objectives, I will work to find it.

What do I do?

Whenever I tell someone I am a lawyer, the next question is always “What type of law do you practice?” The answer is that I have acquired a broad range of experience in a number of practice areas over the years, but the areas I tend to primarily focus on are:
Business and commercial transactions, including buying or selling a business, commercial loans, secured transactions, business organization, and contracts.

Commercial Real Estate, including buying or selling commercial real estate, shopping center leases, commercial leases, financing, development and construction.

Contracts, including review or drafting partnership/joint venture agreements, employment agreements, non-compete/non-disclosure agreements, leases, declarations of covenants, easements and restrictions, notes and security agreements, loan agreements, distribution agreements, and license agreements.

General Counsel. Many smaller companies do not have the resources to maintain a full time legal department. Having served as general counsel for a real estate development company for several years, I can serve in the role as outside general counsel to assist you with a variety of legal issues as they may arise.

Probate and Estate work, including wills, trusts, estates, and trust administration.
I look forward to hearing from you and assisting you with your legal matter.
